Lofoten – a paradise up north
Lofoten is made up of several smaller and larger islands. The fish rich waters surrounding the islands are divided by several perilous ocean currents, like the maelstrom mentioned by Jules Verne in “Around the world in 80 days”. It is the migration of cod (January – March) that has provided a livelihood for the islands settlers for more than a thousand years. Steep mountains tower straight out of the sea, like walls and the coast is dotted by small villages and hamlets. Kayaking here is an amazing adventure, with killer whales and porpoises swimming alongside. Mountain climbing, sandy beach barbeques, fishing, scenic helicopter flights or a rough ride by zodiac boat are other activity options.
